One of my best friends is Jewish, and -- quite rationally -- wary of hard-leftist spaces for reasons such as these.
For me, these people are dire embarrassments. For her, they're dangerous. Just fundamentally unreliable people who can't tell triangulation from reaching fascism by a stack overflow.
Ken Klippenstein is streaming with George Galloway. The Young Turks are hosting RFK Jr. One ex bernie spokesperson is streaming with candace owens and another is defending Nick Fuentes. Brianna Wu is hanging with lauren southern. Maybe now is the time to re-evaluate how the left chooses celebrities.
It feels surreal because as you and your friend likely know, this isn't a new problem. Tons of people have for years seen these people as counterculture grifters willing to side with fascists if they could mutually laugh at libs. I guess it's just less deniable now.
But even in local friend groups there has always been an apparent difference between people who genuinely want things to get better and to work towards greater equality vs others under the same tent who just liked laughing at liberals and sometimes fantasized about societal destruction.
