Having just finished watching #TheMarvels I can say that it was enjoyable. Brought forth new and cool ideas, laid out the future of Marvel pretty well.
The only thing is that the movie’s plot and its characters felt disconnected from each other.
We got to see Captain Marvel struggle and her own uncertainties, then overcome them with the people around her. Or, well, that was the idea they seemed to be going for. This underlying lesson failed to reflect in the story, so it never quite clicked.
In the same way, the story was centered on revitalizing a crippled planet. And by the end of the movie it was revitalized, with no resolution to those affected. The consequences were never really addressed or elaborated on, so it never quite clicked.
Instead of being a climactic movie, it ended up more as an interesting special. Not bad, though not great.
It was a good idea. I only wished they thought about it a little more. Compare this plot to Iron Man. Very similar, but one is more emotionally charged. It could have been so much better.
