Something they don’t teach you in literature classes: Most great writers were Weird Little Guys who just happened to have a spark in one particular area and were otherwise the same kind of mentally ill semicompetent losers as everyone else.
I know a lot of folks can take or leave Harold Bloom but one thing that will stick with me forever was when he took a few paragraphs to detail the specific reasons each of the many Great Writers he spent his entire career praising were weird freaks or humongous pieces of shit.
