I'm thinking about applying to be a fellow of the Royal Historical Society. Are there any current fellows out there willing to sponsor an independent scholar who's recently published a book (i.e. me)? 🗃️ #c18th

Question for the intellectual historians out there: Do we see anything similar to the idea of authenticity (similar to that expressed by Sartre and Adorno, and practiced by music cultures like punk and hip hop) pre 20th century? 🗃️

Any historians out there have any advice for conducting a phone interview with a source? I'm talking to a person about something that happened in the mid 1980s. 🗃️

Most of your ideas are bad. So have lots of them, and try to pick the good ones.

A very good example of why digital archives are great, but you still need to keep the originals. From the Reagan Presidential Library's papers of Michael Deaver. #archives #digitization

I'm a believer that digital archives are: 1. Important for increasing access to historical records 2. Part of government's duty to preserve and make records available to citizens. Pennsylvania should not be giving ownership of digital records to ancestry.com www.dailyitem.com/news/inside-...
Inside the Pa. court case pitting a genealogist against Ancestry.comwww.dailyitem.com Pennsylvania hired genealogy company Ancestry.com to digitize a sweeping list of historical documents. Now the company claims it owns those digital copies.

I'm a huge proponent of digitizing histori Al records to create wider access, but it is also super important to keep the originals as well.
Pls respond to this consultation: UK Govt proposing to digitise wills fr c.1800s -& then destroy originals, supposedly to save money! Hard copies wd be kept for 25 yrs 'in recognition of their sentimental value to families'. Blind to the importance of hard copies to historians #skystorians 🗃
Easier access to historic wills under new government planswww.gov.uk Genealogists, historians and amateur family archivists will be better able to access historic wills under proposals published today (15 December 2023).

Popped in for a visit to Newcastle House, the Duke of Newcastle's 18th-century in London. There's a scene in my book that takes place here and I got the history tingles being there. It's a law firm now and the receptionists were very kind to this random historian gushing about the #c18th 🗃️

A Brilliant, heart-gripping essay on the academic job market through the lens of Jane Austen. Given the current state of the humanities, I've come to view my failure to get PhD funding more as divine providence than a great tragedy.
"Being told that the right job is out there in a field where every year the number of tenure-track positions shrinks dramatically is, I think, a little bit like being a woman character in a Jane Austen novel." #c18th #AcademicSky
