I became a fully qualified firefighter at 57 after 2 years as probie (20+ fires) & much formal training. Per state law I retired @ 65. I was stronger & in better shape than several younger guys in our dept. I loved being a firefighter & was good at it. But it was time. Aging sucks but it is a fact.
That doesn't mean that I think Biden should opt out of the race now, btw. I think he should stated more than a year ago that he was not going to run for reelection. If he had, we would now have a fairly chosen, and younger, candidate to face Trump. But we don't. It's a hell of a thing.
