The group is called "Arkansans for Limited Government," which is brilliant. I've been suggesting the Ds retool as the "Mind Your Own Fucking Business" party, but these folks in AR obviously know their communities and are nailing it.
Organizers got enough signatures to put a measure protecting abortion on the ballot in Arkansas. In *Arkansas*. They had *no national support*. Ignore the pundits melting down over not being treated as Very Special Boys. Dobbs has fundamentally changed elections. Everything they know is wrong.

One of the things the U.S. Army excels at is neologisms like 'clusterfuck'. I don't know if the Army gave us 'clusterfuck,' but I'd be willing to bet that that's where it came from. Irregardless, if there's a contested convention, it is guaranteed to be a clusterfuck.
Having lived through the last two contested primaries, I am very skeptical that a contested *convention* resolved through back room wheeling and dealing proves a team building exercise

It's genuinely helpful that the press has successfully signalled that they will not treat Kamala Harris generously or fairly if Biden steps aside for her. Clarifying!

Saddened to learn of the death of Judy Belushi Pisano, whose high school boyfriend & first husband was John Belushi, of Animal House & SNL fame. I first got to know Judy ~ 1995, when she took over from me & my wife as chair of the Tisbury (public, elementary) School Parent/Teacher Organization. 1/

Hotel California — but only if Trump wins & we all enter a suicide pact. Otherwise, the Kars 4 Kids jingle, the only tune ever written that's more obnoxious, lyrically AND melodically, than The Star Spangled Banner. My real preference? Star Spangled Banner, but as played by Hendrix at Woodstock.
You have to pick a new national anthem for the US, but it has to be a song that plays at least once a week on your city's equivalent of Jack-FM (a sort of all-purpose "top 40 from 1970 to 2010" station, skewing rock but not averse to pop/R&B/etc.).

We need more, but credit where due: both The Nation (June 2024 issue) and Boston Review have run a breakdown of the Project 2025 “Mandate for Leadership” document. Media Matters, too. Lots of good work going on digesting this. www.bostonreview.net/articles/ins... www.mediamatters.org/project-2025

Nearly 30 years ago I set out to write a simple murder mystery but ended up spending 4 years creating an imaginary 'biodigital' science just to solve a plot problem. Three more novels since then, more coming. The writer I'm most often compared to is Philip K. Dick. A short introductory essay: 💙📚

This is the fundamental problem we’re facing, with Biden, with Trump, with politics. We spend many hours a day consuming media. But the content of that media is increasingly determined not by WHAT IS TRUE, but by WHAT EARNS AUDIENCE ATTENTION. Factoids are harvested and rebuilt into those stories.
there's the larger question about why "a couple anonymous donors speaking on background says something bad about the candidate" is considered to be newsworthy enough to peg a front-page, push-notification-generating story to. Could easily do the same to Trump!

Step one is that progressives stop overtly trying to destroy him?? What is wrong with you, you’re setting him on fire and saying “tell me how we extinguish him”
He's losing. Tell me how he wins.

Biden has been the most successful progressive president in half a century and the current “progressive” line is that he should immediately resign in disgrace at the insistence of the New York Times. Can you not see how this is an insane hysteria? How social media has completely broken you

Well, you see, Trump was *cognitively fit* when he sexually assaulted teenage girls. … … wait that makes it worse
Biden has a bad debate night: calls to step down Documents released that show two underage women accused Trump of raping them on Epstein’s island, under oath: total media silence except in a few blogs and foreign news The media double standard is incredible to see

I completed college coursework in January, 1973, and spent much of the rest of the 70's living & working in the Senegal River valley, mostly in places that didn't have running water. Round the clock electricity was a day's drive away. Guess I dodged that molded-jelly bullet. Phew!
The Jelly mold industry must have fallen into complete disarray after the 70s. Everyone had several.

New Yorker wants Joe Biden, whose admin has had historical success, to resign bc he's not doing well at running for re-election. This is not, in fact, what the 25th Amendment was made for.

Striking that the NYT appears totally obsessed with Biden's withdrawing from the race (which I have no doubt will happen) while not talking much about the Supreme Court's paving the way to fascism. Seems to me primarily a coping mechanism: you fret about the things you know/may have control over

I became a fully qualified firefighter at 57 after 2 years as probie (20+ fires) & much formal training. Per state law I retired @ 65. I was stronger & in better shape than several younger guys in our dept. I loved being a firefighter & was good at it. But it was time. Aging sucks but it is a fact.

An essay I published on July 4th, 2023, about how a penniless refugee who arrived on Ellis Island ~1914 gave me to understand what the USA, can, and should, be about. As the son and grandson of immigrants, this holiday, to me, is a day to reflect on the vision of America that brought them here.

It's pretty interesting what the media decides is front page news and what they don't decide is front page news! Trump being a child sex abuser with close connections to Jeffrey Epstein somehow doesn't merit the same coverage as "unnamed Dem insider has concerns about Biden's age"
