My least favorite of the trilogy. While the victory lap was well earned I was satisfied and ready to say goodbye with 25 minutes left to go.
I understand why they cut it in the theatrical cut but I imagine that ending fatigue I felt could have been prevented with the scouring of the shire included
Interesting to see all the thumbs-downs. I stand by #2 being lesser-est, but this one does have a really-annoying Indiana-Jones-wannabe skull avalanche garnishing the f'd-up ghost army stuff.
Pip: Merry!!
Merry [half to himself]: I don't know. I don't know what's going to happen.
The endings rule.
I lump it with buffoon-Gimli & other Jacksonian excesses.
Yet so much is so good! + Jackson & co show us, with how they handle Sam, they can balance humor—even a bit at the character's expense—with letting them keep their dignity.
Overall the prod'n needed someone saying "ok, No" a bit more often
