In August, do you feel like the year is half over or is there still half a year left? I am always the former.

Almost milkshake ducked myself by picking out a cute stock photo of a cat to go with a story that turned out to be Julian Assange's embassy cat. Always read the caption!

Went to my new dentist and he was playing cool music in the waiting area like Postal Service and Weezer. Then I realized this is just the new soft rock of medical offices, and I am old.

Following Netflix's sleeper hit "Is this a Cake," the intrepid Wailin Wong has created a hit new game show for the Indicator called: "Is this a bank?" https://www.npr.org/2023/08/10/1193331363/is-this-a-bank

The funny thing about sun bears is that they actually do look like a human unhappily wearing a bear suit.

What can Barbie teach us about women in the U.S. labor force? Quite a lot, actually. A very fun Indicator I produced with Wailin Wong and Adrian Ma. https://www.npr.org/2023/07/24/1189820482/a-lesson-in-barbie-labor-economics

Ready to launch a podcast feat. two wise old trees whenever Warner Bros. wants more Barbie spinoff content.

I had fun at the movies this weekend and am enjoying reading everyone’s hot takes. That’s why the trailers before both Barbie and Oppenheimer were so disappointing (TMNJ, Exorcist 2, Expendables) all big budget reboots or sequels of stuff we’ve seen ad nauseam.

At @npr.org's The Indicator, we spoke to an economist a couple weeks ago who studied what happened to incomes among different grads in California after the court struck down affirmative action 25 years ago. https://www.npr.org/2023/06/08/1181149142/how-ending-affirmative-action-changed-california

This was posted in work slack by @marychilds.bsky.social and it has filled me with magma hot rage. I am from the top apple producing town in NC with an annual apple festival and big tech will never come between me and my caramel apple. https://www.wired.com/story/apple-vs-apples-trademark-battle/

More candidates should run for office on the promise of adding additional three-day weekends to the summer calendar. It is a winning issue with no downsides.

Impulse purchased this Olivetti Lettera 32 after learning it's what Cormac McCarthy used only to discover it does not have a QWERTY keyboard. Soooo, if anyone wants this beautiful Turkish typewriter, let me know. *SMH*

Scariest books I've ever read in my life: 1) The Road 2) Child of God 3) Blood Meridian. R.I.P. to the architect of nightmares Cormac McCarthy.

Just finished s3 of Normal Gossip and I still love it, but I think they could drop the 15 minutes of banter at the top and "what's your relationship to gossip" warmup Q.

When I tell someone I work on podcasts, they tell me what they listen to, which is useful and interesting. Today, however, it was my dog's vet telling me I should interview RFK Jr. like they did on All-In with Chamath, Jason, Sacks & Friedberg :-/

Back in the saddle with @npr.org's The Indicator from Planet Money! Produced a fun one today with Robert Smith and Wailin Wong highlighting an industry near and dear to my heart: trucking. https://www.npr.org/2023/06/06/1180607482/freight-drivers-feel-the-flip-flop

Best part of Selling Sunset are throw away details like this one about $4-5M listings forgetting to install handrails on their austere, brutalist stairways.

Last episode should just show us the order of each sibling in Logan’s mausoleum 80 years into the future. Try to figure out who won in the most ambiguous Roystar way.
