It’s incredible that people have been blasting Fortunate Son as a patriotic jam for over half a century without bothering to listen to the actual song.

Maybe they were just Born In the USA

Goes great with Rocking In The Free World and Born In The USA. Actually has a point, not that dumbass boomers will ever get it.

Blasted by so many Fortunate Sons!

really good songs are like the bible, you can make them mean anything you want to

Oh, I dunno. Sometimes the words make things REALLY clear, but people don't listen to them. "Luka" by Suzanna Vega? "Every Breath You Take" By The Police? There are a lot of them.

"Slug Bait" by Throbbing Gristle, too.

There are so many songs with forced-grin "I'm Okay" horror to them, but people don't listen to the words. I mean, I got hooked on Leonard Cohen when his song "Everybody Knows" was featured... and then you really listen to the words, and the man's a genius lyricist as well as musician!

Born in the USA draws similar crowds

It was just a waypoint in missing the point of “patriotic” songs in between this land is your land and born in the USA

Sec of State Blinken’s band was in the news a month or two ago performing “Rocking in the Free World” which is another one as others mentioned already

The high water mark is Kid Rock playing at Woodstock '99

proof positive as to why irony and hypocrisy are ineffective against them.
Some folks are born made to wave the flag... by their love of the USA!

When I blast it, I think of the irony that it became the de facto song of the Vietnam conflict
