I also finished (re-)reading the first Wheel of Time book yesterday. I was amazed by the end how little I remembered/how much what I thought I remembered was wrong, but it has been nine years since my first read!

I'd say the first book is a good read although it suffers a lot from characters doing things to further the plot rather than because of really credible motivations, and... well, it's an epic swords-and-sorcery type fantasy of its era. So you kind of have to understand what you're getting into.

Positive things: no disturbing sexual violence (which I hope continues to be the case throughout the series, don't ruin it for me yet if it doesn't!), and... honestly, that's the main thing that comes to me right now, it's so refreshing to read something that isn't trying to be edgy like that.
