After a weekend to recover it's finally the start of the holiday for me and I have already started sucking myself into a new project that has NOTHING to do with any of the other things already on my to-do list, why do I do this to myself. 🙀
Have been working on my Hearts of Salt sequel instead of my planned new writing project for the month. Instead of any of the things I'm supposed to be editing for release.
This is why I never get anything new out. 😭 #writing
It's school holidays for the kid and myself and so far the first day for me at least has been derailed entirely by a configuration gremlin in our home network rearing its head at the worst possible time. Can't wait to see what tomorrow has in store for me. 🙀
I've begun writing fanfiction in recent weeks, and my formula is quite simple. First, I identify a problematic relationship or source of emotional distress in one of my favorite works of narrative fiction. Second, I add a handjob
I hate when seeing what other writers are working on gets me fired up about my own projects, but actually I'm working on a blog post right now and I'm stuck so I may not finish for hours. 😭
Started reading the first Percy Jackson book to my boy this week. He hasn't loved every book I've chosen to read him but this one is definitely hitting to some degree; it's fun to see him perk up when Percy says something about his school struggles he finds relatable. 🤭
Made the mistake a week or so ago of rereading a chapter or so I wrote of a sequel to my debut novel release. I didn't exactly have a plot in mind, I just liked the characters and felt they had a lot more to give.
Well now I have a vague plot in mind and I can't stop thinking about it... 🙀 #writing
One of my big projects for July that I'm looking forward to is adding a whole bunch of stuff to my personal website. At the moment it feels like a pretty straightforward bland place where I plug my writing (and I don't even do a good job of that). I've wanted to do more with it for years.
Many laughs to be had when the first day of the month coincides with the first day of my week and I'm obliged to write up monthly, weekly, and daily to-do lists all at once.
I'm not drinking yet but there is midnight apple pie on the way.
I have been informed that the Commander X16 brought out a 'diverse' range of emotions in some viewers at this weekend's event. I am more than delighted to have played a part in bringing that experience to them. 🥰
I also finished (re-)reading the first Wheel of Time book yesterday. I was amazed by the end how little I remembered/how much what I thought I remembered was wrong, but it has been nine years since my first read!
Started playing Terroir last night, which I think I got as a freebie through GOG ages ago. Seemed overly simplistic initially, but I'm getting hooked on the strategy of it all. A good game for a spare moment or when your baby is lying on your other hand. www.gog.com/en/game/terr...
Tonight I'm taking on the important work of REVIVING my darlings: I cut a scene from this book a couple years ago and, well, it turns out I need it after all! I'm rewriting from scratch though so it's going to actually slap this time, I won't want to cut it again. 😚 #writing
Commander X16 is up and running perfectly after a minor panic when I hadn't seated the module relevant to power supply correctly. Wish I had more time to play around with it in the near future, I just want to dig into all the demo software and figure out how to do my own things. Love the RTS game! 🤖
Finishing the Commander X16 assembly and feeding the baby, only one of these requires an anti-static wrist strap and one of these definitely shouldn't have mashed carrot stuffed into its orifices, here's hoping I get this right... 🤖
we live in an age in which we have near limitless storage for data. unfortunately at this time we must erase all works of culture to make room for the infinite sea of machine slop
I forgot there even was a 'new' Syndicate. I really enjoyed Syndicate Wars as a kid (I know, I know) and picked the older games up on GOG a while back, pity checking this one out will be so difficult.
I really think refusing to support distribution of your old IP as a huge company is criminal. 🍵
I have sooooo much editing to finish this month (it is realistically not all getting done) and some 3D printing work for the wife that needs to be completed by Friday... which is why the priority task for today is pedantically tweaking a silly little video for my Kpop YouTube. 🙃
I keep seeing a lot of comments against the use of the word 'content' to describe things created and shared, but as with everything else in life I think you use whatever words you personally connect with most. What you call the work is secondary to the fact that you did the work!
That terrible moment when you suddenly realise that something in your stash of treasured items from your younger years has batteries in it you probably should have removed years ago... 🙀
Was just reviewing a blog post of sorts I drafted a couple months ago and it turns out I was calling it bullshit long before that paper everyone was passing around the other day, I'd say it was prescient of me but not really. 🤭 #NotMyAI
I talk about 'writing in the margins' and what I mean is fitting in writing in the little slips of time.
Not all of us are privileged enough to have unbroken hours to dedicate to writing. One thing that has worked for me is committing to writing 100 words on the phone during bus commutes.
Doing the parenting stuff in a bit of a haze this morning because I stayed up way too late finishing a Poirot book and then couldn't wind down. They did tell me having kids would ruin my sleep but I feel like the connection was supposed to be a bit more... direct. 🤭
