Absolutely too hot here in Portland today... But at least the bees and showy milkweed are going off.

Coworker came to me and said "I found something for you" and proceeded to open a box that held this beetle. I really am the bug guy at work. Anyway I released this beetle after work into a nearby forest... Sadly it was so happy to be back outside that I couldn't get more photos of the antenna.

My general rule of thumb is, if I see the milkweed, I photograph the milkweed. (Asclepias speciosa)

Successfully got some milkweed (Asclepias speciosa) started from seed. Excited to put these in the garden once they get bigger.

A view of Mt. Hood from Lake Trillium

Forgot to post some images of this fantastic aeshnid, it hung around with me for about 10 minutes while I did a little photoshoot. I believe this to be a Rhionaeschna multicolor (blue-eyed darner) though the blue-eye phase hasn't fully developed yet.

Never got to get my haircut here, so I really missed out...

Allow me another moment to nerd out. I was VERY excited to find my first example of a parasitic plant! This is Orobanche uniflora, a plant native to North America that parasitizes upon the other plant roots, particularly Sedum sp. (like the dark green plant in this example.)
