The “legendary sex therapist” is dead. Did she ever explain or retract this sentiment? No, I don’t forget. #asexual

I thought she died a while ago, shocked she lived to 2024. I'm disappointed to see that take from her since her show taught me a lot of things adults wouldn't when I was a teen, I'm wondering if she ever changed her mind

Ppl are complicated. Regardless of whether she quietly changed her mind, this mindset of hers did damage. Most allo “liberals” still can’t seem to wrap their heads around how damaging this is, or push back as if she said this about literally any other orientation (or gender minority).

I’m seeing a whole lot of love for Dr Ruth coming through my feed and I’m just not there with it. The woman was a bigot who also did some good. We must somehow find a way to sit with those two realities. Especially since sex positivity so often also means compulsory (allo)sexuality.

"Especially since sex positivity so often also means compulsory (allo)sexuality." <--- THIS I'm sex positive leaning (sometimes indifferent), and people seem to struggle with the concept that asexual doesn't necessarily mean non sexual. Spectrums are a thing.

People use the term “sex positive” in different ways. Just to clarify I use ‘sex positive’ as an opposite to ‘sex negative’ (anti sex) and ‘sex favourable’ to describe a person’s desire for sexual activity, the opposite of ‘sex averse’.

Ohh yikes. That's kinda gross.

A very common sentiment among a certain breed of sex therapists unfortunately

You can’t catch everything

Weird that she could say it is a spectrum and then feel like 1% was some how "too much" [I had never seen that post.]

I don't really know much about Dr. Ruth generally.

You’re right, that tossed off tweet makes no sense. I suspect she’d just come across a paper by Dr Anthony Bogaert, the “one percent guy”, or someone quoting him.
