2) a conspicuous absence of trump flags (only seen 1). When I did a similar drive in 2020 those fuckers were everywhere.

I'm not saying it's a definitive sign, but it's definitely a weirdly noticeable shift because this should be Trump country for the American southwest.

Presumably you're on Navajo Nation turf. Lots of revivalists there, and they're also not fond of Trump
