I’m reminded of when I was at Pokémon and telling our CFO that the hourly workers flying to an event across the country should be paid for that time. Him: that’s where their job is that day; we don’t pay them for their time driving to the office on the days their job is here. I hate CFOs.
I think the key thing that the pandemic made office workers realise/accept about commuting is that it's unpaid work

I used to have to *fight* to secure time in lieu for my employees that had to travel for events on their weekends Any leader that doesn’t just say yes to that is an asshole And these are the pricks that are more successful 😡

As a Consultant it's in my contract I'm paid for "all time relating to client work" specifically for this reason. #JustSaying

Things like this are part of why in my post C-suite life I’ve become a big advocate for them.

There's such a short sightedness to the way these types of companies run. You could spend a bit more now but in minor investments foster better employee everything. Or you can cut minor corners and have massive turnover where people are miserable.
