Bluesky feed is all “The NYT is destroying democracy with attacks on Biden.” Agenda setting theory lives on — but is the wider public paying any attention to what the NYT says?

The Supreme Court’s ruling putting presidents above the law must be understood not simply as a grant of immunity for past crimes, but an enthusiastic endorsement of those he will commit if given the chance. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

My question: Is inciting an insurrection to overthrow the government an “official act” or nah? Seems kind of fuzzy

Those who can, teach. Those who can't, push educators aside and scam every possible dollar out of school systems.

An indictment of the news media.
Biggest campaign story ever: using a private email server that could hold top secrets but doesn’t and could be breached but wasn’t. Tiny story: stealing top secrets. Hiding them in a bathroom. Taking them to NJ. Showing them to foreigners. Meeting with foreign governments.

Repeatedly arresting and jailing people for sleeping outdoors: Could we just skip straight to giving them a place to live? (Not a jail cell.) The cost of the arrests and jail stays also raises the alternative of basic income, which could be cheaper in the long run.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis stoops lower than I believed possible, vetoing most of the state's support for the arts. It's only $32 million among $1 billion in cuts, but it's devastating for artists and arts organizations, while proving how little he values the arts. loom.ly/ShtvKEc

Growing up, I watched the movie The Ten Commandments every year on TV. I think they showed it in Easter Week. Remember, in those old days we only had about 5 TV channels, so an epic Hollywood movie (even with commercial interruptions) was a treat.

Premise of the TV series Resident Alien: humans have screwed up the planet so badly, an alien civilization has to send a doomsday device that will kill all the people on Earth but not affect other species. When I think about the increasing anti-vax movement, I think we won’t need the aliens’ help.

There might be some correlation between U.S. women dominating college enrollments (as men decline) and the recent draconian laws interfering with women’s reproductive rights and autonomy. Of course the conservatives are also working hard to break the entire U.S. education system, so …
In the past 150 years the only variable that has correlated to lower birth rates has been women’s education. While a lot of that can be specific efforts by women to delay having children, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if it was also because increased education means increased sex education.

It’s not very different from Walmart employees qualifying for food stamps because the “retail giant” pays them so badly. The corporation gets the employee’s labor at a bargain rate and expects others to provide charity to make up for it.
I had the same experience when I first read it. I had to click the embedded link and see the letter for myself. Truly wild. For folks who don't want to click through the links, this is the "Courtesy Letter" American issued:

Had a chat the other day about using AI to extract documents with certain characteristics from a large set of documents, and how this differs from question answering and text generation. If the corpus is very large, false positives and negatives might not matter much — so there’s less at risk —
