Indeed, very nice work led by @omarkamileen.bsky.social #natprod #PlantBiology
Very nice preprint from @oconnorlab.bsky.social on medicinal plant iboga. Things I found interesting: 1) multi-gene constructs outperformed single-gene constructs co-infiltration; 2) expressing iboga enzymes in Catharanthus petals led to iboga specific metabolites. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Do you know who Douglas Prasher is? Many don't, even though he is the person who cloned the original #GFP gene in the late 1980s. In my short history of plant light #microscopy I also cover a bit of his story - & why he is relatively unknown today, despite the importance of his work. See this 🧵👇

hi scientists 🧪 i'd love to hear your thoughts on bluesky! • what groups/people in science aren't here yet, that you want to see? • what can bluesky do to make it a better place for science comms? • what external tools do you use that should integrate bluesky support? • anything else!

This week in SCIENCE, Brandon Alexander, Noah Bartfield and collaborators in Seth Herzon’s group report the synthesis of 8(!) securine and securamine alkaloids, anchored by an acid rearrangement that’s…just a trip chemsky 🧪 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

On average, there are three bicycles in this photograph: one bike, one trike and one unicycle. Just remember, ALWAYS look at your data directly (in the genome browser, or points on the graph) and do not rely on summary statistics alone (mean+SD or SEM). The truth can be hidden!

Did you know that a lot of bioactive specialized metabolites are actually super abundant, in mM or % fw levels. Some plants like certain barley genotypes make so much cyanogenic glucoside that they can kill cattle. So don't buy it when people say all specmets are low abundance.

Great News from the EU: The Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety has voted in favor of novel breeding techniques. Interesting: They ask for a ban on all patents on NBT plants. An interesting twist that will reduce current criticism. www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/pres...

The most important scientific institution of LATAM is being dismantled and defunded. This is it, this is a point of no return, we know how this ends: the Argentinian science community being expelled from the country. How expensive this will be for our future generations! 💔
