The sci-fi that I need: introduce transgene to tissue, get tons of stable integration events, and spontaneous regeneration without complex tissue medium.

Already 80 F at 4 am. Crazy.

Part of me actually believes I might be among the last several generations of human before climate change does our society in. Collectively we have a lot of potential for greatness, but more often than not our institutions are completely gridlocked for actions.

My lab is looking for a postdoctoral scholar. See image or t.co/bdIxT8eE6n If you're a plant geneticist or mol biologist and appreciate the wonders of evolution this is a position for you. We can teach dry lab or genomics so plz consider if you want to learn a new skill!

The annoying thing when (in retrospect) you probably would have designed the experiment different now than then, and the reviewer says this, and you acknowledge it, but there’s still valid results in the data and you have no money to do the thing again…and so it stays a preprint forever

My kitchen stove is a step from the apartment door. Last night I was cooking something with shrimp paste (it was good). While I was cooking I was like I hope people walking by don’t mind the smell!

Wrote 10 pages for a proposal (I started last Friday). Might have to trim some text later because page limit is 15 for NSF. Writing with @spicybotrytis.bsky.social is pretty awesome because feedback are very quick.

Here is a gradient PCR for annealing temperature going from 55C to 68C. You can empirically see where the primers stopped working when the efficiency starts to drop.

Weirdly enough this tweet has a high bookmark to like ratio. Probably one of the highest among all my tweets.

Friends, any examples of cell type specific metabolism in fungus and insects? For example, in plants, cuticle wax biosynthesis is specific to the epidermis.

I used to like Times New Roman 12, but now I really like Arial 11 for writing. For figures I really like Helvetica, and for slides I used to like Calibri, but now I really like Aptos.

The pretense is always that learning about the history of racism will make (or is even MEANT to make) white kids feel guilty, which is just not how normal people react to things that happened before they were born. What they’re really afraid of is that it will make them feel outraged.
Without even clicking the link, I’ll guess the reason — all the talk of racism makes white kids feel guilty. Again, if your kids are reading histories of slavery or segregation and identifying with the racists in the story, that suggests you’ve got your own problems to work through. Leave us out.

Just updated a bunch of my GitHub repositories to reflect that my title has changed from 'postdoc' to 'Assistant Research Scientist at Department of Crop & Soil Sciences' since May. Check out my GitHub page: github.com/cxli233 if you are interested in data visualization.

Sometimes I do like a good heatmap. Re-plotted from single cell metabolomics data from our paper (www.nature.com/articles/s41...). For R scripts underlying this heatmap, see my GitHub: github.com/cxli233/Simp...
