You have to love any book that opens with the line, "The human race, to which so many of my readers belong..." Also: is this a new look for Penguin Classics? Or just a one-off for this title? (Akin to Wharton's Summer, below.) I think we should be told.

Richard Strauss' 𝑆𝑎𝑙𝑜𝑚𝑒 is being performed three more times this month at the Vienna State Opera (Camilla Nylund as Salome) kalender.wiener-staatsoper.at/en/calendar/... They mention how Mahler failed to get the opera to (t)his house (in 1905) — but not that it was then shown in Graz instead .....

Iliazd's list of people to whom he gave copies of _Rapture_ when it was published in 1930 makes up one of the appendices in the latest Russian edition of the novel. No surprise that he sent one to Raymond Roussel.
