Distressed to see a splintered tree— A victim of the heat? A dress rehearsal meant for me? A hasty truck’s retreat? All kinds of rotten grade the hill, Congealed in liquid ripe, Aspiring to dense green until It’s August. Just my type.

In fishing towns and villages, the most haunted place isn't some pub with spurious tales of tunnels and spectral smugglers, but the causeway and steps down to harbour. For many ghosts cling to the infrastructure of labour, cling to the working that defined their lives – C. Josiffe

Iliazd lived with Gala and Max Ernst in Eaubonne after Éluard disappeared early in 1924. Some accounts claim both #Iliazd and Gala painted scarves for Delaunay to make money, until Gala heard at last from Éluard in May and sold his art collection to finance her trip to meet him.

Why, yes, there _is_ an #Iliazd angle here. Delaunay employed Iliazd in 1922 to paint scarves (see his zaum sleeve design posted several days ago), which allowed him to leave his job as a parking valet. Robert Delaunay drew Iliazd's portrait at the time.

I'm liking May Sinclair's _Mary Olivier: A Life_ very much. Here's another of those hymns (this by William Cowper) that inspire my bagatelles. Does nonsense become crystal-clear in the child's hearing? Or does accepted meaning turn to utter nonsense?

It’s hard to overstate just how tragic this is. If you’re an LGBTQ+ person or have immediate family that is, the opportunities to receive an education in book arts in a state where your rights are protected are dwindling.

Very grateful for my first opportunity to view this sleeve design up close at Bard Graduate Center's Sonia Delaunay: Living Art exhibit. (Third photo is #Iliazd 's signature buried in the mix, while his pseudonym was still feminine in the period when it was freshly minted.)

Saw Powell and Pressburger's "Tales of Hoffmann" at Museum of Modern Art last night. V. was deeply repulsed, and we spent some time diagnosing why. My verdict: alien to camp sensibility. Reread Sontag's locus classicus today, and I think the verdict was correct.
