Reading a biography of Emily Dickinson and it's a shame the one photo we have of her doesn't convey what a weirdo she was.
Her poems do, obvs., but the photo is the thing that first springs to mind for those who don't know the poems.

Oh, interesting. I was just at the ED house museum and they didn't say anything about this. Certainly looks like her (esp what seems to be the slightly lazy eye).
It is partly on the evidence of a neuro-opthamologist that the identification is based.
I've often wondered how different it might have been for her if she'd met just one person who "got" her; it seems as if nobody really did.
It seems like her sister-in-law came close, but she wasn't in a position to champion her like she deserved.
