New story! New story! John tweeted a very interesting premise around the time my uncle passed and my brain whirred. This Mentor Lives is about the people who look out for us, and how it can be hard to look out for yourself. Self-love is radical love!

thinking about how half of the point of Babbage's Difference Engine was to do calculations. and the other half of the point was to then typeset the results without anyone making a transcription error.

An interesting overview of what it takes to keep a large compiler extension up to date. Working on adding unit tests that encode Liquid Haskell's assumptions about the compiler to make it easier to find when they are broken.

This article reminds me of the Twitter account "I've Pet That Dog." Gift link for anyone who would like a detailed, poetic description of the fur of a bunch of very fancy show dogs: wapo.st/4bFhJoy
The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is not just a competition for the finest-bred dog. It is also the fanciest petting zoo imaginable. If you play it right, you can pet them all.

My favorite confederate flag - the one Minnesota took from them in battle and refuses to give back to this day. In response to the 2000 resolution asking for it back, Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura stated "Why? I mean, we won" and that "We took it, that makes it our heritage".

This piece on ECPR is an incredible portrait of the challenges of health care delivery. We have a procedure that brings people back to life after their hearts stop beating, but basically only in Minnesota, where a small group of people focused relentlessly on it: www.nytimes.com/2024/03/27/m...
The Race to Reinvent CPRwww.nytimes.com A new, high-tech approach called ECPR can restart more hearts and save more lives. Why aren’t more hospitals embracing it?

A small project from yesterday, plotting Gamma(x) = Gamma(y). Wolfram Alpha is awful. Desmos is OK but not great. My custom code fills in the gaps, but is that really what a graph should show, or should it highlight all the discontinuities? #GammaFunction#MathVisualization

Who do we have to blame for sin⁻¹𝑥 meaning the inverse function, but sin²𝑥 meaning the square of the sine? I did a little reading and found that it's none other than William Herschel (discoverer of Uranus) and he *knew* it would be a problem. www.quora.com/Which-did-n-...
