Unless the council creates new laws to prevent it, the number of people in Vancouver who will be evicted because old, low buildings with long-time tenants paying half market rates can now be replaced with skyscrapers is going to make our current homelessness and housing crisis pale in comparison.
I live in one of those old, low buildings that could be replaced with one twice as high. And there's nothing I can do. The ABC council and Ken Sim are firmly in the pocket of big business. I doubt they'll enact any serious protection for renters. This is terrifying.
