The newly issued banknotes in Japan might be unfamiliar to people overseas, but they all feature great figures who made significant contributions on a global scale.

The diagonal lines on the new banknotes are very similar to the marks made during urushi lacquer tapping.

Is there a name for the style of kanji used for “bank of Japan” on these bills?

This part is in a script called Clerical Script 隷書(rei-syo).

I love me a good Reisho* script! (On a good day, I've even managed the techniques needed to write it!) * No correction intended, just acknowledging this is one area diverse systems are still current. (Actually, I love all the historical scripts; really gotta post more of my previous works.)

I also like reisyo Script. It has a formal style and enjoys enduring popularity in Japan. I can't actually write in it, though...

Thank you very much for answering my question!

It's those caterpillar-heads and duck's tails - *killer* moves with the brush. (And I still haven't cracked some of the important ones, like making the shape needed for 口 *deep sigh*)

I just saw a site describe it as “silkworm head, goose tail” 蠶頭雁尾 I’ve never scrolled so far to find the first kanji.
