Folks, look, Scholastic is only a billion-dollar juggernaut that dominates the children’s book industry. What are they supposed to do about fascist book banning and censorship in the face of 11 racists sending angry emails? Whatever they want because they literally can? C’mon. Be reasonable.

It isn't like they have a PR department that couldn't wage a counter war against the fascist organization which would help them sell more books.

No, they are afraid of getting on one of these crazy far-right groups _bad_ side, and possibly being kicked out of school boards based on that. They have no courage in this, as they might lose a few bookfairs in that case. They are selling paper, not ideas.

Could've been a phenomenal gesture of DEI and support for the scholastic (pun intended) community nationwide, and they chose... otherwise 😖
"Sure, we'll curate a book fair for you, but it'll be significantly smaller due to your institution's diversity-adverse policy, which seeks to erase the many students & creatives who make our work possible." Instead, Scholastic paid into the lie that diversity is an anomaly & its lack standard. 2/2

Don't forget, every time they equivocate on the supposed controversy of a given subject it will leave them open to further machinations trying to please a tiny, unpleasable mob! The path they have chosen is definitely going to go well!

Personally, I expect for-profit companies that do most of their business with the state to make brave moral stands.

Sorry, just to clarify: you think selling kids’s books by Black authors or featuring Black characters to be a “brave moral stand”? Seems pretty straightforward & basic. Responsive to a market, even.

If only they had a hugely successful author of books about magic which are bound to be on the fundy-Christian banned list and who is known to be pally with lawyers. They must be busy doing something else, I guess.

I’d bet money that THOSE books are never getting left out of a Scholastic book fair where they sell millions in movie tie-in merch. It’s not like they support diversity of LGBTQ people. In fact the author is too busy persecuting LGBTQ people to worry about a little book banning in public schools! 😬

Scholastic shpuld just grind those guys up and sell them to kids as sea monkeys

Can't blue states block their access to school markets on grounds of open, avowed discrimination?

And get sued and lose because [flails arms wildly at SCOTUS]
