An aspiring dictator & convicted felon w history of treason may win the presidency. Profoundly corrupt SCOTUS justices undermined the constitution and gave him immunity from prosecution for past & future crimes. This is all political journalists should be writing about 24/7. We’re at the precipice.

March 23 1933, the Enabling Act becomes law in Germany, giving the chief executive power enforce his own laws without checks and balances. The passing of the Act marked the formal transition from democratic republic to totalitarian dictatorship. 6 months later, it was a 1 party state.

@andybehrens.bsky.social is 100% correct about pandas being overrated and completely unable to function in nature. I have been to the panda sanctuary outside Chengdu, China, where they literally have a breeding center because PANDAS ARE TOO LAZY TO HAVE SEX! They would be extinct without human aid.

all powerful when it's time to spy, steal, cheat, and subjugate the plebs; mysteriously powerless when it's time to help poor people or hold a large corporation accountable
This is the climate policy we get with a court system invested in a dictatorship of Republicans: the President has total immunity and absolute power...unless he's a Democrat & does something good for the country. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/01/c...
Judge Orders Biden Administration to Resume Permits for Gas Exportswww.nytimes.com President Biden had paused new natural gas export terminals to assess their effects on the climate, economy and national security. A federal judge disagreed.

And yet the average person just believes whatever the stores say. Doesn't help that the media by and large simply reports their bs claims without challenge.
Noticed this at big chain stores the last couple times I was in NYC. Both times, in different parts of the city, I just walked a few blocks to a non-chain drugstore where nothing was locked down. Either the indie stores are taking massive losses, or this isn’t really about theft.

I don’t recall the NYT calling for Trump to step down after being convicted of 34 counts of fraud and being called by a judge at his civil trial a rapist in the common person sense

I have a crazy idea of how the administration should respond to this decision that will probably appall the lawyers and constitutional scholars. Ignore it. Continue to issue and enforce regulations. If someone complains, tell them to fuck off. Why should I clearly corrupt Court get the final word?

Don't give up, bad government choices can be undone.
After months of public outcry and pressure from the City Council, New York City’s libraries are poised to have their budgets fully restored so that branches may resume seven-day-a-week service, including Sundays. gothamist.com/news/nyc-lib...

Sanofi won't make dengue vaccine anymore, claiming low demand. So there will be zero US producers. Given dengue is endemic to Puerto Rico, a functional federal government would understand it is obliged to step in here. Based on past decisions, even the current administration is unlikely to do this
So uhh... we REALLY need dengue vaccines. There are some in the pipeline but for now we have nothing once the current doses of Dengvaxia expire and that's not great since Puerto Rico declared an emergency over the virus.

Disagree. Capitalists would want masks because they A) are one more thing to buy B) reduce infection, increasing what people buy otherwise. This is simply fascism.

This shithead was my rep. until the GOP redistricted him to a safer set of Zip codes: "Tell you what – I do want to 'ethnic cleanse' by deporting white progressive Democrats – with a special bonus for rich ones with an Ivy League degree," Roy tweeted. "I really do not like 'those people.'"

Oh my God, I didn't realize this is literally the exact story I told in ONE NATION UNDER GOD. The Fraternal Order of Eagles was instrumental in spreading these Ten Commandments monuments across America in the 1950s ... as part of a promotional tour with the Cecil B. DeMille epic.

Only time: in 5th grade the class troublemaker came up to me at recess and said the teacher asked for me to come inside. Naturally, I didn't believe him. But, for some unknwin reason, she had. And apparently thought I, and not she, needed a lesson. And made me clean tables at the next recess
This is not going to help with my already-nerdy reputation, but I never once was sent to detention

Nope. Boeing had not placed parts that were required in at least one of the incidents. And how many mysterious whistle blower deaths does it take before we stop trying to excuse a company everyone, even employees, say has completely given up on customer safety?
So uh. They may have a break in the Boeing failures. And Airbus is affected, too. A British firm may have been forging release certificates, lying about the metallurgy of their parts, so that brand new parts already had corrosion.

This is an excellent description of the editorial failure behind The NY Times' decision to run Alina Chan's lab leak article. What's the value proposition to the readership of presenting a one-sided argument that most scientists find lacking? Did no editor bother to ask that question?

Whereas the First Amendment specifies no legislative regulation and yet that's the one Conservatives want to regulate out of existence.
the thing that makes me want to run my head into the wall when talking to 2nd amendment fuckwits is that "well regulated" is PART OF THE GOD DAMNED AMENDMENT TEXT

Oh, well China creates disinfo campaigns too so it's ok we probably killed 1000s of Asians with our own such campaign. "A Pentagon spokeswoman said the U.S. military...noted that China had started a 'disinformation campaign to falsely blame the United States for the spread of COVID-19.'"
How the hell do you “not look at COVID from a public health perspective”? If you can keep the mass death away from the forefront of your mind in that situation, you might be a Nazi www.reuters.com/investigates...

UPDATE: NY Governor Kathy Hochul said on CNN last night that she is considering a ban on masks. This is absolutely shameful! New York has suffered so much from COVID, and COVID is not over. We should be normalizing and depoliticizing masks, not banning them.
