Ebikes are so awesome. And yet, their widespread adoption does risk not lowering emissions. I find this rather interesting. I also find it interesting that so few have asked this question.
I doubt this exact problem exists for EVs...
here's what I figured on ebikes --
A new bicycle has about 1 tonne of CO2 emissions associated with manufacturing. If the bike replaces car-travel, then it would need to replace about 6-8000 kms of it before it was 'break-even', pollution-wise.
