This. Also, get involved in the climate movement somehow, using your unique talents and passions. And don’t strive for perfection in any of it. Just help push things in a better direction. Human systems, after all, are made up of individuals.
None of this stuff really matters for climate change. The big items for us as individuals are: - how much & how clean we drive & travel - how much & how clean we heat & cool our homes (and we should heat and cool as much as we need to be safe) - the carbon intensity of what we eat - do we vote

This is yet another demonstration of the power and success of climate science. Successful predictions like this demonstrate that we understand something fundamental about the climate system. In fact, climate science is a parade of successful predictions.

Being really dogged in this is the best way to get things done. Because let me tell you: they do not care how many experts tell them their ideas are bad and possibly unconstitutional. They need to fear their constituents.

Max the tax. ... (?)
“But that carbon tax is useless,” they counter; getting to the real objections, driven by solution aversion. Again, NO. This meta-analysis of 21 policies finds that "introducing a carbon price yields immediate + substantial emission reductions despite the low level of prices." We just need more!

We’ve long talked about the carbon budget, but given that the world is on track to pass the 1.5C target in the coming decade its time to start talking about the "carbon debt". My latest piece over at The Climate Brink: www.theclimatebrink.com/p/the-growin...

sea level rise — caused by humans — is making this worse. any house with less than about a foot of water in it would be dry w/o human's warming the climate.

(years estimated) 200 years ago if you didn't have a job (or were rich)youd be arrested and given one. 150 years ago western medicine killed more people than it saved 60 yrs ago women couldn't vote in Quebec.
40 years ago, the ozone hole was still a big problem 60 years ago, rivers were catching fire in the United States Progress is possible! (Hopefully in 2054 there will be a post like “30 years ago, GHG emissions were still at record highs but now they’re near zero”)

Ebikes are so awesome. And yet, their widespread adoption does risk not lowering emissions. I find this rather interesting. I also find it interesting that so few have asked this question. I doubt this exact problem exists for EVs...
here's what I figured on ebikes -- A new bicycle has about 1 tonne of CO2 emissions associated with manufacturing. If the bike replaces car-travel, then it would need to replace about 6-8000 kms of it before it was 'break-even', pollution-wise.

what is the opposite of an environmentalist? Seriously. If we're going to label people as environmentalists (even when they're really just trying to save people/the economy/healthcare etc from the damage to the environment)... then I think it would only be fair to label those on the other side.
