In a sad way, this is perfectly emblematic of systemic failure we’re seeing in a lot of arenas: expertise means nothing, marketing is what’s valued and sought after by those in charge
Why does Morning Joe keep turning to a marketing professor for hot takes on history, politics and sociology?

Agree, and there's also a sense that business professors can speak on any subject: I ead a paper yesterday in which three business profs claimed Chat GPT was actually more creative than human beings. That stuff makes me rethink my opposition to Marxism.

The death of expertise at the hand of branding. Galloway, like Rogan and Maher, parlayed a modicum of notoriety for a thin slice of subject matter expertise/fame into a perceived notion of omniscience in every subject matter by the media - despite volumes of data to state otherwise.

If nothing else, the past decade has been proof that some people will believe any pile of nonsense if spoken loudly and with absolute and completely unearned confidence.

It’s not great but a media show putting someone on who is slick and speaks well is pretty normal a lot of the historians they let on like Doris have their own baggage Outside of the plagiarism allegations her Team of Rivals thesis about Lincoln is all wrong and led Obama down a bad path
