I’ve always wondered if there is any expectation within the profession to examine the negative impact of poor reporting on people’s lives based on training, guidance or recommendations by professional orgs.

In the business for 15 years and I’ve never seen such a reckoning in real time—maybe decades later, but only once the reporting is at odds with conventional wisdom and the news org’s internal politics

But that would mean reporting those trans kids as the victims of Xtofascist hatred which would anger the advertisers upon which the NYT derives a significant revenue stream. The priority is always profits over people.
