So much evidence involved things he did as president, which the Supreme Court said can’t be used as evidence.

The Supreme Court said official acts as president. Covering up a crime is not an official act, especially a crime you committed before you became president. Not only that, his ax as president were not the subject of the prosecution, they were only evidence supporting the charges.

Here's an example. Let's say Donald Trump murdered somebody before he became president. Then, as president, in an interview with Fox News he admits that he murdered somebody. That confession, even if deemed an official act, can be used as evidence in his murder trial.

That is the opposite of what the opinion said. But maybe the Roberts Court will just be like, “We didn’t mean what we said!!” again.
