I asked this question at the other place earlier in the week: What would you do to salvage Nickelodeon the NETWORK in the eyes of the core demographic and NOT JUST THE NOSTALGIC ADULTS? It frustrated me that many of the folks who answered it just said "You can't. Just kill it. Go to where kids are"

That's just so dismissive of the problem and definitely an ignorant, arrogant, and classist take to have because it just assumes that the channel is not needed because everybody has access to the internet, which, I should remind you, they don't. One in five households don't have broadband access.

One in five may seem like a low number, but that's more than 42 million households without any form of broadband internet access. For youngsters in those households, linear cable is still a necessity & a luxury. But go ahead & tell the kids in those households they don't deserve Nickelodeon.

But that's where we are. Nickelodeon is mostly six shows now, and about 50% of the daytime hours is one show. Shows that would have easily been Nick originals are now premiering primarily on Paramount+ and Netflix, not the network. "Screw those kids who want to watch Nickelodeon on television."

It's like these media companies don't care about kids and children's programming beyond the new shiny jangling thing they're into at this moment. Cable did that to broadcast TV killing Saturday morning television & syndication. Streaming did that to cable. Something will do that to streaming too

"Go to where the kids are." Not every kid has an iPad glued to their eyeballs. Not every kid has a computer in their house or access to a television with streaming capabilities. And yet, these media companies have ignored those kids. You need to go EVERYWHERE kids are. That still includes cable.

Sure, but given cord cutting is still a thing, I think it would be interesting to see them become an OTA subchannel as well. It worked for Oxygen

As someone who just went right to that… yeahhhhhh. 😅
