If you go to your local park, you’ll probably find a historical marker dedicated to someone who died young, or visited the park a lot, or both. Here’s a sample of plaques on benches around the pond at Fort Lowell Park in Tucson, Arizona, that can make you imagine them still sitting there.

I went to Fort Lowell Park to document the historical markers of what was, naturally, Fort Lowell. I’ll get to that, but I want to spotlight that one of Tucson’s neighborhoods is named after a guy who pissed off the Army because he sold booze at extra hours, at high prices, to the fort’s soldiers.
