Posters of May ‘68. “To use them for decorative purposes, to display them in bourgeois places of culture or to consider them as objects of aesthetic interest is to impair both their function and their effect...” Oops, sorry! letterformarchive.org/news/atelier...

Fascinated by how many people on this platform have fled Twitter/X because of its shitty politics, only to spend a lot of their time here reposting the worst far right Trump takes from X, with comment, as if that makes it better.

"Who's your candidate?" Grofield asked him. "Frankly," Marba said, "I have difficulty in believing it of any of us.'" "So do I. But it had to be one of us. So which one is your pick?" Marba's smile was very, very sad. "I'm afraid it would have to be you, Mr. Grofield," he said.

Amid the chaos of the world, yesterday I realised I own four editions of Chester Himes’s COTTON COME TO HARLEM. Which is your favourite cover? Mine is the batshit craziness of top left, although bottom right is also pretty cool.

I really enjoyed THE BIKERIDERS. Aside from the Austin Butler/Tom Hardy sandwich, it was a really interesting depiction of the way that aspects of American biker culture changed from the mid 1960s going into the 1970s

My first film tonight. Definitely giallo adjacent. You could do a PhD on how this film reflects sexual politics in America at the time. But my main thought is to marvel at how, career wise, Eastwood was lost in the eighties.

Last night’s rewatch in preparation for a podcast appearance. Hands down, Mann’s best film. A visual feast & an absolute neon soaked nightmare of how America was changing economically, socially & politically in the 1980s

I really rate THE SHIELD & in the past have enjoyed trolling social media with posts about its superiority to THE WIRE, as latter becomes canon. But I totally agree with this great piece on The SHIELD's weaknesses compared to THE WIRE, esp in its depiction of race. www.rogerebert.com/black-writer...
