There hasn’t been enough said about the “Invisible Recession” of 2015-16 and its impact.
While nationally the economy was “Meh, fine,” in those years, many states and localities were in technical recession - and **a lot** of those places were responsible for giving Trump an edge in 2016.
I know some people who voted Trump in 2016 because they felt like their communities were being ignored by Dems. Most of those never became die-hard cultists and may be redeemable.
But people who voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020 **because** they liked that he’s an asshole? Nah, no redemption.
Those were the places that were really latching on to Trump’s lies about the state of the economy while Dems nationally were like “lol what are you going on about? Nobody actually believes this, right?”
