At one of my grad school auditions I overheard the audition monitor tell a parent that he was from Long Island and was majoring in bassoon. The parent, coveting a morsel of small talk, asked “Oh, are there a lot of bassoonists from Long Island?”
I felt so bad for that Better Parent’s child.
