At one of my grad school auditions I overheard the audition monitor tell a parent that he was from Long Island and was majoring in bassoon. The parent, coveting a morsel of small talk, asked “Oh, are there a lot of bassoonists from Long Island?” I felt so bad for that Better Parent’s child.

If you ever catch yourself thinking this way about other peoples' parenting, check yourself. If you write about it for public consumption, you're a scumbag.
