Stumbled upon a statue of Woody Allen here in Oviedo. I probably wouldn't have noticed it, but some young folks were taking pictures of each other delivering roundhouse kicks to it, and I like to think they knew exactly what they were doing, to whom.

The Carbayuno is THE local pastry. Flaky pastry shell, mild almond paste filling, some sort of...airy sponge topping (?) to cover the filling, and a thick, hard brown sugar glaze. I'm not going to learn how to make them, but I was delighted to have one, and might yet have another.

Amazing lunch at Arrocería La Genuina de Cimadevilla. Oxtail arroz. Scallop and octopus arroz. Squid ink croquetas. Blood sausage and apples wrapped in filo with red wine sauce. We shared everything.

Time to go shopping! Let's see what the local markets and supermarkets have to offer. Going to be looking for ñora peppers especially.

Scallops! Zamburiña or volondeira? My guess is the latter. Asturian schnitzel is called Cachopo & taken very seriously...there are competitions. Local veal stuffed with Iberico jamón, breaded, fried, and draped with a three cheese sauce. It was the first place winner in the 2022 championship.

Cool tip: Like your coleslaw extra tangy? Toss the shredded veggies with a *little* white wine vinegar before dressing it. Bonus effect: you won't need as much dressing, as the dampness from the vinegar facilitates even coverage! AC vinegar would work well too, if that's your thing. 🥗🍜🍽️🍝
