Today, I spent the most I've ever chipped out for a record, which felt a little weird. But it was less than most record collectors I know spend on, say, original punk 45s, and it's one I would have deeply regretted if I had let it go.
Joyce Harris (or "Sinner Strong") recorded a handful of singles belting out "gut bucket" blues screamers, and every one of them is just killer. I'm sure Norton Records or someone will eventually issue an LP, but until then I'm grabbing them. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMDh...
Something I like is Ace Records, a UK label, originally released it on a Domino Records CD comp in 1997, and apparently just issued this single because it got so much attention on the Drive Away Dolls trailer- they're calling it the "Trailer Version," (though it's the same song).
This was an unissued recording of hers that I used to play for people (from a 90s CD comp) and say "Imagine if punk rock had actually started in 1961..." This one was only (finally!) released on vinyl this year. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBDn...
However, that one was prominently featured in 'Drive Away Dolls,' so maybe, just maybe, we'll get a Joyce Harris LP while she's still alive and kicking.
