I really have lost my former tolerance for "we're doomed/fucked/it's all over/they've won" takes at this point, in that they're the most dangerous attitudes one could possibly have when confronted with a truly existential political threat (which we still DO have levers to address).

not only does doomerism eventually (or quickly) turn selfish and self-indulgent, but you also get the sense that its adherents are unaware that people have often faced existential threats throughout history and that we'd all be worse off now if doomerism had always won out

The ignorance of even American history from some distresses me. Oh, SCOTUS made shit worse for you? It made it more difficult to organize and protest and fight authoritarianism? If only an escaped enslaved person or an anti-war protestor could know what that was like.

Intolerance of uncertainty is part of my autism profile. It’s actually very difficult to fight. And I try to be open to helping people if they are open to being reasoned out of it. But they so seldom are.
