The word 'map' was originally a shortening of Old French mapamonde, which descended from Latin mappa mundī (napkin of the world) mappa came from a Punic and is Semitic word, which makes it a cognate of the Hebrew word for map/tablecloth: מפה
🏳️‍🌈 Happy pride! 🏳️‍🌈 'Pride' goes back to Old French 'prud', meaning brave or valiant. The haughtiness connotations may come from arrogant Norman knights describing themselves as proud, which soured the word for the Anglo Saxon commoners
