That Heritage Foundation statement threatening a violent revolution against the left = that moment in a movie in which the forces of evil loudly announce their evil plans. except in real life, unlike in a movie, most normal people don’t even realize this has *happened* (which is our job).

I think there could be an argument to be made that people like ianFleming, and others who shaped our understanding of super villains were actually involved with people who were super villains at some level in World War II and I really wonder if it’s based on dealing with Nazis at the time.

As always I'm into the moral pscyhology here: imo this is the villain convincing themselves it's a good thing combined with their delight in getting away with it. That incoherence (why is it surprising you got away with a good thing?) generates and requires the speech. Tyrants can't shut up.

This. Some of you wait very loudly and in ways that are super uncomfortable to read as a survivor of abuse.

My personal feeling is that in cases of sexual assault "I'm going to wait to see what else develops" is a fine, but if you loudly announce that what you're seeing is inadequate and not enough and should not be believed by anyone, that's not waiting to see what else develops.

i think Trump’s success in distancing himself from the policies of his own people is at least partially because there’s an authenticity to it: he really doesn’t give a shit about the right wing agenda, he’s just willing to trade it in exchange for power

even trump’s campaign staff (i assume he didn’t write this) knows that the reactionary, authoritarian agenda that’s project 2025 is going to be unpopular with the average voter.

2 of the top 3 candidates for the US presidency have shown a repeated willingness to believe any conspiracy dangled in front of them like a set of keys, including wildly anti-american ones, which are straightforward cognitive deficiencies for what we should demand in a president. neither are biden.

This is the one good thing Starfield did for me. After it made me angry enough to get over the activation potential to actually leave a review, it also made me resolve that I will make the time to praise the ones that have delighted me rather than just sit there in contentment.
