In Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, The Enterprise (NCC-1701) is not refitted because at 20 years old, it is radically out of date. The most recent Enterprise, CVN-65 was decommissioned after FIFTY ONE years.

Watching Star Trek: The Motion Picture and encountered an interesting dilemma: I can recognize that these are miniatures but I can also recognize that they're supposed to be something big. Lacking the presence of something recognizable, I'm completely unable to discern scale.
