It’s so bizarre that energy people are really myopic about this basic tenet of the preferred economic system for green growth (capitalism). Less supply of oil = more expensive oil = more profitable oil = more perverse incentives to keep demand flowing. See: plastics proliferation.

At some point in the mid transition you reach an actual physical constraint on the minimum viable industry size but uhh nothing guarantees we reach that minimum or that it doesn’t get reconfigured on the way down.
