This is a story I'll save to show that change is hard... until it isn't. There has been a lot of backlash to re-theming this ride, which was originally based on the very racist "Song of the South." However: "The reaction has been much more positive from those who have ridden the attraction."

Black Disney Princess Ride Replaces Splash Mountain and Its Racist Historywww.nytimes.com The ride was closed last year because of its connection to a racist film. Disney overhauled it to focus on Tiana, Disney’s first Black princess, drawing praise and backlash.

Just gonna put this out there that I don’t know a single serious urbanist who believes in a “no cars at all” position and it’s rather exhausting to see smart people bring up this straw man. Asking drivers to pay for the negative externalities they cause does not equal “ban cars.”

Quite the week to be heading to New York.

Fun fact: one of the multinational oil companies reached out to us at Marin Bikes to partner with them on a promotion in the UK. We passed on the opportunity as we didn’t want to help them with their greenwashing.

It was just a matter of time before the broader auto industry leveraged cycling to sell itself. File under: Bicycles deliver the freedom that auto ads promise.
