On a serious note, Jews have a concept "Minhag HaMakom" which means "the custom of the place," and one is supposed to follow Minhag HaMakom to keep peace in our lives
Note: it only applies to customs (like taking shoes off) and not to laws (ie. a custom cannot be used to justify horrible acts)
