I now know three women this year and last- with very rare postpartum preeclampsia - none of them within the previously identified high risk categories- Anyone know of there are any studies tracking these rates? A doula I know of has had seven clients this year alone experience it.

CW: child loss Relatedly, my sister was noticing what seemed to be to her high rates of miscarriage and stillbirth among her friends and acquaintances since the Omicron wave. Same sort of wondering if data to back it up, and just saw data from Alberta saying stillbirth has quadrupled since 2017.

I read stats about this while helping a friend find studies to decide whether to get a COVID vaccination while pregnant. The miscarriage and stillbirth rates were really high amongst the unvaccinated in that study in Ireland. I'll see if I can find it.

My wife treats pregnant diabetics and advises them to get their COVID vaccine/booster because of it.

Yup. It looks like Covid can cause preeclampsia. “Conclusion: The studies retrieved in this review suggest that there is a possible overlap of pathophysiological interactions between COVID-19 and preeclampsia, which mainly involve ACE-2 and endothelial dysfunction.”

Right. Postpartum onset is much rarer and is much less monitored- so I was wondering if that has beeb tracked at all in terms of duration/recovery resolution. These are mom’s who have to go back to hospital weeks after birth for dangerously blood pressure

Seeing some papers about “gestational hypertension” “necessitating a cesarean section” and “complicated by eclampsia and postpartum depression.”👇 This one’s anecdotal about Covid, postpartum preeclampsia & high blood pressure after birth, going back to hospital: www.preeclampsia.org/our-stories/...

That sure sounds like a Covid thing, huh?

“Pre-eclampsia is thought to be caused by the placenta not developing properly due to a problem with the blood vessels supplying it.” That absolutely sounds like the aftermath of Covid infection that messes with the vascular system.

Yep. We can’t know until more study, etc., but yep.

And post- partum onset preeclampsia has been considered very rare

I think there have already been a bunch of studies on how COVID affects the placenta. Idk about any specifically looking at post partum complications This literature review is from 2022 so possibly slightly out of date, but covers how COVID affects the placenta www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles...

I wonder if extreme stress from the current bullshit going on can be a contributing factor?
