Just discovered an incredible artifact

Hell, those /might/ be rivets or some other kind of captive/tamper-proof fastener. I'd say get a big set of vise-grips and see if you can twist it off. Uh... in Minecraft, of course.

I was thinking even some heavy duty bolt cutters might be easier

Ooo, yeah. A cordless dremel with a cutting wheel might serve you really well there. Something small and portable but still with enough juice to get through those fasteners.

Yeah, get a set of different sized hex keys from a hardware store.

You can buy hex bits for drills!

those are rivets and they have to be drilled. in theory
