And corruption! Michael just asked how much his father's enemy (The Turk) was bribing the police to be complicit in his father's murder. Whamo!

He knew the police captain was corrupt beforehand but didn't care. He didn't want to make an issue of it until after the beating.

To be fair, saying "corrupt police officer" is like "flying airplane". The adjective is inherent in the noun.
