Really is quite a thing that the creation of a fledgling multiracial democracy that began haltingly to take seriously the rights of women and minorities led to a political realignment that has brought us to the brink of collapse within 60 years.
I find it kind of disturbing how poetic and vast the contrast between the US’ original sin/contradiction at its heart and its ostensible founding values(both in 1776 and 1865) is.
The extent to which we’re built from immigrants, value justice & equality but half the country fundamentally rejects it
